The UK and the EU had set a target of negotiating the terms of Brexit by the European Council meeting in October. Both sides are confident that an agreement can be achieved, but political pressure is mounting in Westminster against any withdrawal deal based on Theresa May’s Chequers proposal, creating great uncertainty. 

With just five months left before Britain is set to formally leave the EU, Simon Fraser will reflect on the state of the negotiations after the October meeting and consider the political choices ahead. Can a deal be achieved and if so what sort of deal will it be? How big is the risk of no deal? And is there still a possibility that Brexit could be reversed?
